Allen Central Rebels: 2011 Season Preview & Outlook

Jeremy Hall and his Rebels are coming off of 5-6 season with a 1st round playoff loss to eventual class A state final runner-up, Hazard. The Rebels return most of their offense including QB Micah Harlow, who threw for 1285 yards and 17 touchdowns. Harlow returns his go-to-guy Sheldon Rice who led the team in receiving yards last season with 729, Rice also had 8 touchdowns. However the Rebels did graduate their leading rusher Shane Hamilton, but expect Mickie Parsons to get majority of the carries this season, as Parsons was second on the team last season with 634 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. Parsons also was second in receiving behind above mentioned Sheldon Rice, as Parsons had 389 yards and 4 touchdowns.

The Rebels will also rely heavily on Harlow, Rice and Parsons on the defensive side of the ball, as each where at the top of the team last season in tackles, interceptions, or fumble recoveries. Josh Handshoe will also play a big role on offense and defense this season for the Rebels.

Outlook

Aug. 26 - Jenkins - The Cavs are still an up-and-coming program who still has a few years from getting on the level of the Hazard's, Pikeville's, etc in the region. (Allen Central wins, 48-12)

Sep. 2 - @ Leslie County - The Eagles won't have a top 10 team in AA this season, however they'll still have enough talent to win 5-7 games. (Leslie County wins, 34-20)

Sep. 8 - Betsy Layne - When the Rebels & the Bobcats play it's always a classic, I wouldn't expect nothing less this upcoming season. (Toss-up)

Sep. 16 - Paintsville - The Paintsville program hasn't been where their fans or coaches would like to have it over the past few years, however the Tigers always have a few play-makers capable of winning games by themselves. I expect a very competitive game. (Allen Central wins, 36-30)

Sep. 23 - Williamsburg - Williamsburg's usually has a top 20 team year in and year out in class A, so it'll be a tough matchup for the Rebels. (Williamsburg wins, 41-20)

Sep. 30 - Pineville - The Mountain Lions had a good season last year and as I don't expect them to compete with the likes of Hazard or Pikeville, they'll still be good enough to finish 3rd or 4th in the region. (Pineville wins, 35-16)

Oct. 7 - Phelps - The Hornets, like Jenkins have years left before they become competitive with most of the teams in their region. (Allen Central wins, 48-12)

Oct. 14 - South Floyd - Defiantly a rival game, however the Raiders will be in a rebuilding process after the loss of some of their top players from last season. (Allen Central wins, 36-20)

Oct. 21 - Pikeville - The Panthers are on their way back up to being a top 10 team yearly in class A and they'll be fielding a very talented team this upcoming season under McNamee. (Pikeville wins, 42-16)

Oct. 28 - Knott County Central - The Knott Central program has been down over the past few years, however they have talent and if everything were to get going for them this could be a exciting game. (Allen Central wins, 30-22)

Anywhere from 5-7 wins is possible for Hall and his Rebels. If they can improve on their defense from last season, then they'll have enough talent on offense to win a few big games. I don't expect the Rebels to get past Hazard or Pikeville in the playoffs though.

Best of luck this upcoming season!
