Betsy Layne Bobcats: 2011 Season Preview & Outlook

A lot of firsts have taken place over the past 3 years on the hill for Betsy Layne's football program. Coach Johnathon Parsons has turned Betsy Layne into a respectable team in their region that continues to show improvement each season under Parsons. This fall Parsons and his Bobcats move up to class AA with county foe Prestonsburg and Shelby Valley & Leslie County. The Bobcats did graduate several starters last season including quarterback Nathan Martin who threw for 1042 yards & 17 touchdowns. Martin's #1 target Landon Tackett also graduated. He lead the Bobcats with 568 yards receiving & 8 touchdowns last season. Betsy Layne also lost do-it-all player Casey Adkins, who rushed for over 1641 yards & 14 touchdowns. Adkins lead the team in tackles last season too, with 65 solo's & 72 assisted tackles. Korey Jarrell, Dylan Hamilton and Austin Hall look to be the leaders for Betsy Layne this fall as each contributed on both sides of the ball last season for a successful team that looks to do the same this season.

Lawrence County Bulldogs: 2011 Season Preview & Outlook

Louisa is home to one of the most tradition rich football programs in the coverage area, the Lawrence County Bulldogs. The Dawgs have a new head coach this upcoming season in Joey Cecil and expectations are high, as Lawrence drops down to AAA and will be in the same district as Belfry, East Ridge, Pike Co. Central and Sheldon Clark. The new realignment has made this arguably the toughest district in class AAA. The Bulldogs return many starters from last season and key players, however replacing Hunter James will be no easy feat, but Lawrence always has plenty of talented up-and-coming players on their roster and Caleb Bentley looks to fill-in for James. Bentley will get to run behind BIG Tyler Combs who is committed to play at Marshall next season. Jacob Marcum will also return with Bentley in the backfield, along with quarterback Hayden Kiser. Kiser did lose his #1 target through the air to graduation in Kyle Crum. Defensively Lawrence lost Turner O'Brian, but the Bulldogs returned leading tackler Jordan Wellman and Blake Shaeffer. Kyle Crum won't only be missed on offense, as he lead the Bulldogs with 4 interceptions last season on defense.

Johnson Central Golden Eagles: Season Preview & Outlook

Since taking over at Johnson Central, Jim Matney has turned Johnson Central's football program into one of the most respected football programs in the state and the #1 team in Johnson County, over rival Paintsville. Many are aware that Matney has coached some very talented players during his time in Paintsville, but many can't argue that they've seen one as talented as Mr. Football candidate, JJ Jude. Jude rushed for over 3,000 yards last season, including a state-record breaking 584 yard rushing performance against Woodford County. However, those yards may not come to Jude as easy as they did last season, as Johnson Central graduated many of his key lead blockers like DJ Ousley & Tanner Bratton. The Eagles also graduated 8 other players, including their 2nd leading rusher, JK Hall. Hall was the starting quarterback and starting safety for the Eagles and filling in for him will likely be Ross Sanor. Sanor brings in a athletic frame and has the ability to step in and do just as good of a job as Hall did as an Eagle this upcoming season.

East Ridge Warriors: Season Preview & Outlook

History, a word that is used very rarely on the ridge of East Ridge. This season marks the 4th year of former Breathitt County and Pikeville College super-star Brad Allen at the helm as Head Coach. Not only is Allen the longest football coach in Warrior history, he is the longest consecutive returning coach as well. In Allen’s first 3 seasons, he has shown moderate success. With a combined record of 9-23, and two playoff trips in the last two years Allen will be looking for big thing from his players. East Ridge finished the 2010 season with a record of 5-6. Another first for the young school. The Warriors enter the 2011 season into what experts argue one of the toughest districts in the whole state.

East Ridge was rocked last season due to graduation, losing 12 seniors while only returning 7. The most notable position that will be missing on the football field will be at the QB position.
“Losing a 3 year starter at QB is tough. We’ll be working very hard over the summer and the best will step up into that roll.” Said Head Coach Brad Allen. The Warriors also lost their running back core. Leading the charge for the Warriors running wise will be senior Josh Colly and sophomore Jacob Skeens. Second year player Brandon Thacker will step up as fullback. East Ridge returns several key offensive linemen in: Kyle Colly, Josh Coleman, and Chad Mullins.
